CDC mandates the public to wear face masks - February 1, 2021
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued an Order on January 29, 2021, requiring the public to wear face masks while on conveyances and in transportation hubs. The Order emphasizes that the virus that causes COVID-19 spreads easily via respiratory droplets and that wearing masks prevent infected individuals from spreading the disease. The CDC’s Order focuses on transit because it brings people in close contact with one another. Furthermore, the CDC believes that any state or territory without sufficient mask wearing requirements for transportation systems within its jurisdiction has not taken adequate measures to prevent the spread of COVID-19. To that end, the CDC is exercising its statutory and regulatory authority to require wearing masks on transit.
Further, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) issued a Security Directive (SD) January 31, 2021, that is effective February 1, 2021 at 11:59 p.m. The SD was issued to enforce the requirements of the CDC Order mandating masks, as well as implement the Executive Order issued on January 21, 2021.
AVTA already requires face masks to enter any of our vehicles. This order carries the weight of federal law and makes failure to comply a violation of Federal law.

FTA Releases New Video to Thank the Transit Industry - June 16, 2020
The Federal Transit Administration (FTA) has produced a video to thank the transit industry, and particularly our frontline workers, for all they are doing to keep America moving. The transit industry has been hard hit by the COVID-19 public health emergency. But, every day, we continue to see the resiliency of the industry and the commitment of its workers.
During this public health emergency, the transit industry continues to provide essential transportation services for healthcare personnel and other workers who are critical to the COVID-19 response and our nation’s economic recovery. While transit ridership has decreased sharply because of the public health emergency, transit agencies across the country are continuing to provide approximately five million trips a day to lifeline services.
Transit workers are American heroes and the FTA, AVTA, and the Antelope Valley community wants you to know how much we appreciate your efforts.
Thank you!

AVTA Requiring Face Masks – April 16, 2020
It is no longer optional in Los Angeles County. As of Midnight last night, Los Angeles County's Safer At Home Order For Control of COVID-19 (California Health and Safety Code § 120295; California Penal Code §§ 69, 148(a)(1); Los Angeles County Code § 11.02.080) requires face masks or coverings be worn to enter a public place. This means that AVTA will now require face coverings in order to ride our buses.
In March, AVTA instituted a requirement of boarding through bus rear doors and implemented free fares on our local fixed routes to help with this practice. The practices of rear boarding, social distancing, and now face coverings are required to enter an AVTA vehicle.
Please be courteous to fellow riders and the bus operators as we all strive for safe habits and a healthy transit experience.
