AVTA Resumes Regular Local and Commuter Service Schedules with Eyes on Safety
Lancaster – On May 06, 2020, Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Chairwoman Kathryn Barger and Dr. Barbara Ferrer, LA Public Health Department, announced that certain types of businesses and public spaces in Los Angeles County will be allowed to reopen with safety precautions on Friday, May 08, 2020.
This announcement has made way for the Antelope Valley Transit Authority (AVTA), to begin plans for resuming regular local and commuter schedules to service those in the AV community that count on AVTA to get them where they need to go.
On Sunday, May 17, 2020, AVTA’s Local Transit Routes will run a regular Sunday schedule. On Monday, May 18, 2020, AVTA’s Local Routes will return to their regular schedule. Additionally, Commuter Routes 785, 786, 787, and the Transporter Route 790 will return to normal commuter schedules.
Route 748 to Mojave Air and Space Port will return to regular service on June 1, 2020.
Route 747 to Edwards Air Force Base will resume service when the Air Force Base returns to normal operations. No date for this has been announced at this time.
“As restrictions are lifted and businesses begin to re-open, AVTA’s return to regular service levels will help AV residents begin to return to normal routines,” stated AVTA Board Chairman Marvin Crist. “AVTA is dedicated to our riders' and employees' health and safety. Service schedules will return to normal with an eye on safety, ensuring AVTA provides the healthy transit experience our community relies upon.”
To promote social distancing behaviors and healthy personal space, mandatory rear-door-only boarding and free fares will continue on AVTA buses through the end of May 2020. Commuter service will also be fare-free through the end of May 2020. AVTA will continue a policy of 50% reduced maximum seated occupancy and passengers will still be required to wear a mask or cloth face covering in order to board and ride the bus until further notice. Passengers using mobility devices that require the use of our bus ramp will be allowed to board through the front doors.
Regular fares for local and commuter services will begin on June 1, 2020.

AVTA seeks to mitigate further risk of exposure to its passengers and operators. The Stay at Home Order for control of COVID-19 issued by the County of Los Angeles and the State of California is still in effect. The agency is returning to regular service schedules while still complying with this order.
AVTA provides local, commuter and dial-a-ride service to a population of more than 450,000 residents in the cities of Lancaster and Palmdale as well as the unincorporated portions of northern Los Angeles County. Our total service area covers 1,200 square miles and it is bounded by the Kern County line to the north, the San Bernardino County line to the east, the Angeles National Forest to the south, and Interstate 5 to the West.
