AVTA Strives to Promote Healthy Transportation and Asks for Community’s Participation
Lancaster – Antelope Valley Transit Authority (AVTA) has always held the health and safety of our passengers and employees as our top priority, and given the current environment, the agency is acutely aware that with so many people dependent on our services, that commitment has become even more important to ensure that operations continue as smoothly as possible.
Towards this goal, AVTA has increased the frequency of our cleaning procedures. AVTA uses disinfectants known to be effective against COVID-19 (coronavirus) and influenza viruses. AVTA has increased the frequency of cleaning and disinfecting of all touch-surfaces at our facilities and on our vehicles. All surfaces of our bus stop amenities are being disinfected daily and the amenities at our transportation centers are being disinfected multiple times each day. All seats and touch-surfaces on all vehicles are disinfected daily as well.

During this current flu season and in light of concerns over the potential spreading of COVID-19 (the coronavirus), it is vital for all of us to act in a responsible and conscientious manner. It is everyone’s responsibility to take everyday preventive actions to help stop the spread of germs.
“According to experts, washing hands and controlling coughs are the most effective actions we can take to prevent the spread of these viruses,” said Macy Neshati, AVTA Executive Director and CEO. “These are actions and habits we all can perform to promote a healthy environment.”
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has provided detailed recommendations for healthy habits to prevent the spreading of flu viruses, including COVID-19 (the coronavirus). These habits can be summarized in these three points:
AVTA provides local, commuter and dial-a-ride service to a population of more than 450,000 residents in the cities of Lancaster and Palmdale as well as the unincorporated portions of northern Los Angeles County. Our total service area covers 1,200 square miles and it is bounded by the Kern County line to the north, the San Bernardino County line to the east, the Angeles National Forest to the south, and Interstate 5 to the West.

- Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol if soap and water are not available.
